Effingham Park District Director Jeff Althoff Wednesday told Park Board members that preparations for spring are almost complete.

Althoff said park district restroom facilities should all be open by this weekend. Some fields have already been in use for high school and junior high sports activities. Althoff said player drafts for some sports have already been held while others are set for this week.

Althoff also reported that signups continue for a new program, a full day camp. He said parents have asked for such a program in previous years and 20 children have been enrolled in the program.

Althoff said signups are continuing for the full day camp, to be offered weekdays from 7:30am to 5:30pm for 10 weeks. He said the program is targeted at those a little too old for day care, but not quite old enough to stay home on their own.

Park commissioners also heard from Workman Sports and Wellness Complex General Manager Jake Junghanel, who said memberships are at just under 2,000, and that 50 programs are available to members. Junghanel reported that the Complex is $50,000 in the black for the month.
