A Sumner man was given prison time on an Effingham County case.

34-year-old Joseph D. Roberts was sentenced to 30 months in prison on counts of possession of controlled substance and bringing contraband into a penal institution.

Roberts was arrested on the counts in June of 2015. He was placed on probation in September, but reportedly violated his probation earlier this year. He was given the prison sentence during a court hearing on Tuesday.
