Two-Vehicle Crash on Interstate Near Edgewood

Two vehicles collided early Monday morning on I-57 northbound near Edgewood.
The crash happened at 3:56am. State police say 24-year-old Mayra Patino of Chicago fell asleep and her vehicle rear-ended a semi driven by 34-year-old Brian Baynum of Burlington, Kentucky.
Patino was injured as was her passenger, 23-year-old Rocio Perez of Hammond, Indiana. Both were taken to St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham for treatment.
Patino was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash.
