Dieterich school board members heard this week that the Dieterich Student Council will sponsor activities during Red Ribbon Week October 22-26.

Student Council President Shelby Flach said the activities will include Boot Day to Boot Out Drugs, Wear Red Day, Backward Shirt Day to Turn Your Back on Drugs, School Spirit Day, Costume Day to Scare Away Drugs, and a poster contest.

Red Ribbon Week is sponsored locally by the Effingham County Drug Alert Council to battle the use of illegal drugs.

The Board approved the fiscal year audit, which earned the district a favorable report, but the overall rating was decreased due to deficit spending last year and outstanding bonds that were issued for the renovation project the school had completed this summer.

Superintendent Cary Jackson reported on Dieterich schools receiving the Bright Star Award for high academic performance coupled with low per-pupil expenditures.  Also, the Board named Justin Gephart their representative to the Illinois Association of School Boards Conference in November.

Dieterich board members approved a senior class trip to Chicago April 24-26, 2013.

In personnel matters, the Dieterich board named Elizabeth Homann as Drama Club sponsor, Chuck Einhorn as substitute bus driver, and Christina Wilson as one on one part-time aide, and approved two separate leave requests from Karen Huber.
