The 2016 Effingham Chamber Community Scholarship recipients were recognized Friday at the Chamber First Friday Luncheon for June.

This year's recipients are Hunter Niebrugge, Beth Schumacher, Dillon Hardiek, Carolyn Horin, Mindy Myers, Claire Niebrugge, Parker Anderson, Kaitlin Cordes, and (NOT PRESENT) Megan Myers.

Some of the awards are general scholarships from the Chamber, but several are specially presented by particular Chamber member businesses.

(RICK SIEMER)

Siemer Milling Company President Rick Siemer served as First Friday Luncheon guest speaker. Siemer's topic was "Why College is a Waste of Time and Money!" He shared that the topic more appropriately should be When College is a Waste of Time and Money.

Siemer noted several of his friends and acquaintances who have gone on to other careers than they first envisioned and those who never attended college but have gone on to long and successful, well-respected careers. He also shared three things to remember: Love Learning...Have a Passion for Accomplishment...and Gain Wisdom.
