Mattoon Apartment Building Fire Caused by Child Playing w/Matches

A fire that damaged a building at Sunrise Apartments in Mattoon was caused by a child playing with matches.

The fire last Wednesday night rendered two apartments uninhabitable and caused smoke and water damage throughout the third floor of the building as well as in the unit directly below the fire-damaged apartment.

One person was taken from the scene to Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center for treatment.
