The Regional Office of Education for Effingham and other area counties has been awarded a New Teacher Induction and Mentoring Program Grant for 27 beginning teachers and mentors. Effingham Unit 40 is among the districts that will participant in the opportunity.

Regional Superintendent Julie Wollerman said, "This will be a great service we can offer the teachers and schools of our region."

The grant will allow for beginning teachers to have an individual mentor as they transition into the classroom. Research has shown that support in mentoring new teachers leads to better outcomes for students.

The program is considered a two-year program will run from now through June 2017. Unit #40 Superintendent Mark Doan said, "We are fortunate to be able to expand our existing mentoring program in our district to help our staff and students be more successful. We look forward to working with ROE #3 in strengthening the educational process in Effingham County."
