Friday's scheduled pre-trial hearing of former Effingham resident Gary Schmitt was postponed for two weeks.
Effingham County State's Attorney Ed Deters said the postponement was agreed to during a conference call with Schmitt's counsel. The hearing will now be held October 5 at 9am.
Schmitt faces murder counts for allegedly killing his father Jack Schmitt in June 2010 and with counts of aggravated battery for allegedly stabbing Jodi Bourland and her daughter Lauren Huntington during an incident at Bourland's home in Edgewood in January 2011.
A trial on the aggravated battery counts will go first, to be held in Montgomery County Court in Hillsboro on October 9. A trial date is yet to be set on the murder charges. The defense is using an insanity defense in both cases.
