Williamson County native Judge James "Randy" Moore has announced his intention to seek election to the southern Illinois Fifth District Appellate Court based in Mt. Vernon.

"I am today announcing my intention to run for a full term as Justice on the Fifth District Appellate Court for the open seat of Justice Gene Schwarm," said Moore. "It is of the utmost importance that judges be impartial, honest, and hardworking.  Judges must maintain the highest integrity. It is my desire to continue to strive toward excellence in all these qualities and hopefully represent the finest in judicial standards."

Judge Moore was elected in 2008 and was retained in 2014 to the deep southern Illinois First Circuit Court based in Marion. The Illinois Supreme Court assigned Moore to the First Circuit in 2007, prior to his election in 2008. Most recently, Judge Moore was assigned to the Appellate bench by the seven-member Illinois Supreme Court on January 2, 2015 -- the position he currently holds.

Illinois' Fifth Judicial District encompasses the 37 counties in central and southern parts of the state. The "northern" line of the district is Madison, Montgomery, Christian, Shelby, Effingham, Jasper and Crawford. All points south of the "northern" line and the Mississippi, Wabash and Ohio Rivers make up the remaining boundary lines.

"I will pledge the voters in the southern 37 counties of the Fifth Judicial District that I will maintain the highest integrity and will uphold the laws and statutes. Most importantly, I swear to defend the strictest interpretations of the U.S. and Illinois Constitutions. I have also appreciated the trust and confidence placed in me by the voters of the First Judicial Circuit," concluded Moore. "I sincerely appreciate the support that has been given to me in the counties of Jackson, Williamson, Saline, Union, Johnson, Pope, Alexander, Pulaski, and Massac since first electing me to a full term as Circuit Judge and retaining me for a second full term as Circuit Judge."
