Three young people were injured in a crash overnight in Fayette County.

State police say a vehicle driven by 16-year-old Kaitlin Kistler of St. Elmo hit a rut in the road and Kistler lost control of the unit.  The vehicle ran off the roadway and into a ditch and then spun around.

The crash occurred on a rural road a half-mile north of Brownstown at 11:48pm Wednesday.

Kistler was injured as were her two passengers, 17-year-old Zachary Janssen and 18-year-old Matthew Rush, both of Brownstown.  Kistler and Janssen were taken to Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia, while Rush was taken to Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Kistler was cited for DUI, improper lane usage, illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor and no valid driver's license.  Janssen was cited for illegal consumption of alcohol.  Rush was ticketed for consumption of liquor by a minor and possession of drug paraphernalia.
