Things are back to normal in receiving 911 calls through the Effingham County Sheriff's Office.

Verizon Wireless had told the sheriff's office Sunday afternoon that 911 calls were going through, but might not necessarily have gone to local authorities. Callers were being encouraged to give their complete address in case the dispatcher they reached was not familiar with our area.

The sheriff's office contacted us this morning that local Verizon cell phones are now correctly sending 911 calls to the local sheriff's department, so things are back to normal.
