Details have been released on a three-vehicle crash that occurred Monday afternoon in the construction zone on I-70 near St. Elmo.

State police report the crash occurred at 5:41pm in the eastbound lane, one mile west of St. Elmo. Cars driven by a 17-year-old girl from Florissant, Colorado and by a Dayton, Ohio woman slowed in the zone, but a SUV driven by 60-year-old Michael Carey of Altamont did not slow in time and rear-ended the Colorado girl's car, which forced it into the rear of the Dayton woman's car.

Police say the Colorado girl and her passenger and the Dayton woman were all injured. The Colorado residents were taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham for treatment, while the Dayton resident was taken to Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia to be treated.

Carey was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash.
