Sheriff's Department Handles Two Crashes

Effingham County Sheriff's Department investigated two crashes with injuries on Wednesday.
One crash occurred at 11:25pm on Moccasin Road, just east of 300th Street on the west side of the county. Deputies report a vehicle driven by 19-year-old Damion Shumard of Altamont ran off the roadway and into a ditch, continued traveling in the ditch, and struck a small bridge.
Shumard was injured and was taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Deputies cited Shumard for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash.

The other crash occurred at 5:45pm Wednesday at the intersection of US Route 40 and Country Club Road, west of Effingham.
Deputies report a motorcycle ridden by 31-year-old Christopher Brabson of Altamont was involved in a crash when the front brake of the cycle locked up. Brabson was injured, but refused treatment.
