Tickets are now on sale for the seventh annual Memorial Day show presented by Three Chicks and a Stage and the Effingham Performance Center.

“Our Veterans Remember” will be on stage at 2:00 pm on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25. Audience members will be treated to narrated stories of local veterans, detailing their specific experiences during times of war. Some are lighthearted, some are heartbreaking; all reflect our Effingham area veterans and the many sacrifices they made in the service of our country. Once again, the Mattoon High School JROTC Gladiators Drill Team will bring their precision movement to the stage. The event will include music from the Civil War forward performed by local musicians, vocalists and the FACE Orchestra. A collection of photos of our veterans and related scenes on the big screens will accompany the program. Before and after the performance, the lobby of the Effingham Performance Center will host displays by the Effingham County Cultural Center and Museum Association and by the Effingham County Veterans Memorial Fund. Additionally, Lynn Brown, Representative of the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs, will park his World War II Army jeep on the lawn of the EPC for visitors to admire.

New this year is the opportunity for veterans to sit in the special Very Important Veterans or “VIV“ section at the front of the auditorium. Our veterans who choose to sit here will be honored during the show. During the finale, a professional photograph will be taken of them standing in front in of the stage facing the audience. This 8 x 10 photo will be on display in the lobby during the meet and greet after the show. Order forms will be available for the audience to purchase copies of the photo. A portion of the photo sales will benefit the Effingham County Veterans Memorial Fund. Those veterans interested in sitting in the VIV section need only request “VIV” seating at time of purchase. Veterans who wish to sit with family or friends are welcome to do so in any other part of the auditorium.

Three Chicks and a Stage is a not-for-profit theatre group in residence at the Effingham Performance Center.  The “Chicks” annually produce the Memorial Day show and a Christmas show. Founders Carol Hourigan and Monique Hortenstine enjoy the collaboration of many talented locals and the staff at the EPC who make for a successful performance. The mission of Three Chicks is to create entertaining productions with local talent and to give back to the community. They will donate a portion of their proceeds to the Effingham County Veterans Memorial Fund and ECCCMA.

Tickets for “A Veteran Remembers” cost $14 for adults and $8 for veterans and children 12 and younger. To purchase tickets, call the Effingham Performance Center at 217-540-2788 or visit the box office at 1325 Outer Belt West during office hours. Tickets will also be on sale beginning at 10:00 am on Memorial Day.
