State Crop Report for Week Ending April 19

Planting was in full swing in Illinois last week as producers took advantage of the drier weather.

Statewide, precipitation averaged 0.38 inches, 0.57 inches below normal. The average temperature was 60.5 degrees, 6.9 degrees above normal. 

There were 4.3 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending April 19. Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 1% very short, 7% short, 70% adequate and 22% surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 1% very short, 11% short, 74% adequate and 14% surplus. 

Corn planting progressed to 15% complete, compared to 4% last year and the five-year average of 21%. Winter wheat condition remained at 1% very poor, 9% poor, 36% fair, 47% good, and 7% excellent. Oats planted reached 69% complete, compared to 49% last year and the five-year average of 65%.
