Southwestern Electric Annual Meeting Saturday

Southwestern Electric Cooperative members and their families are cordially invited to attend the co-op’s 74th Annual Meeting, which will take place on Saturday, Sept. 8 at Bond County Community Unit #2 Junior High School in Greenville, Ill. Doors will open at precisely 7 a.m. and breakfast will be served from 7 to 9:30 a.m., followed by the business meeting, beginning at 10 a.m.
The Annual Meeting offers members an opportunity to learn about the cooperative’s programs and services, speak with Southwestern Electric personnel, and receive select health screenings. There will be Bingo for adults and activities for children, including carnival games, prizes and Southwestern Electric’s Junior Lineman Challenge.
Active Southwestern Electric Cooperative accountholders are encouraged to vote in the co-op’s annual election, which will fill three open seats on the board of directors and determine one proposed amendment to the bylaws. The members will elect one director in each of the cooperative’s three voting districts. Candidates include:
District I (Macoupin, Madison and St. Clair Counties): Alan Libbra
District II (Bond, Clinton and Montgomery Counties): Ron Schaufelberger
District III (Clay, Fayette, Effingham, Marion and Shelby Counties): Ron Ragsdale and Randy Wolf
The official Election Day will be Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012. Voting will be available from 7 to 10 a.m. at Greenville Junior High School as well as at Southwestern Electric’s facilities in St. Jacob and St. Elmo, Ill. Absentee voting will be offered at the cooperative’s Greenville headquarters, during regular business hours, beginning on Aug. 24 and ending on Sept. 7. The Greenville office, which is located at 525 U.S. Route 40, is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Formed in 1939 with a loan from the Rural Electrification Administration (REA), Southwestern Electric Cooperative, Inc. (SWECI) is a not-for-profit, member-owned cooperative located in southwestern Illinois. Southwestern Electric Cooperative serves more than 22,000 residential, commercial, agricultural and industrial members in parts of Bond, Clinton, Fayette, Effingham, Macoupin, Madison, Marion, Montgomery, Shelby and St. Clair Counties. The cooperative, headquartered in Greenville, Ill., maintains nearly 3,500 miles of power lines, employs more than 80 people and owns two subsidiary companies—New Illinois Cooperative Energy (NICE) and Propane Plus.
