The Effingham County Dive Rescue Team recovered a sunken boat at Lake Sara over the long weekend.
Team members were notified about 4pm Sunday by Ed Safford that his boat had sunk. Authorities said the 21-foot Caravelle boat had sunk due to the heavy rain and flooding.
Divers located the boat on the bottom of the lake near the boat dock. Divers attached lift bags to get the craft off the lake bottom, and then utilized large pillow bags under the boat to re-float it. Crews then pumped water out of the boat.
Dive Team Commander Terry Trueblood said divers used Haz Mat dry suits due to the danger of gasoline burns on their skin. Divers were on scene for a couple of hours.
The boat suffered mechanical damage and was later towed so repairs could be made.
