During the visit of the remnants of Hurricane Isaac to our area, Effingham could see from three to five inches of rainfall.

City Emergency Management Agency Coordinator Kim Tegeler today said to help prevent flooding, residents should check the storm drains on their property to assure they are clear of debris.  The precaution will allow the water to drain properly and help prevent potential flooding.

Tegeler said results should also check their sump pumps to insure proper operation.  If your basement floods and water comes near electrical systems, phone 911 to have the fire department check for hazards.  If you lose power, have your emergency kit ready and be sure to run your generator outside your house.
