The Effingham Unit 40 Board of Education has decided to proceed with letting businesses advertise at varsity football games during the coming season.

The Board has discussed the issue of advertising on school grounds the past few months. The decision was to allow signage at football games on a "trial basis". The vote was 6-1 with Brian Wick voting No.

The plan is to display eight two-by-eight-foot signs along the track in front of the home grandstand. The double-sided signs will not be anchored, but they will be weighted. Advertising on the signs will be sold for a two-year period at a total cost of $1,000.

The project will be overseen by Unit 40 Activities Director David Woltman, who said he is already getting interest from potential advertisers.
