We told you earlier this week about a meeting held in Effingham by an organization known as Clean Line Energy Partners. The group is proposing Grain Belt Express transmission lines across Illinois to send wind energy from Kansas.

An opposition group has formed called BlockGBE that says the project would not be beneficial. BlockGBE has scheduled two meetings in the area; Saturday at 9am at Cowden Community Center and Sunday at 1pm at Greenup Municipal Building. A third meeting will be held at 6:30pm at the St. Louis Parish Center in Nokomis.

BlockGBE spokesman Dave Buckman of Macoupin County said the proposed project is a "land grab". Buckman said Clean Line Energy Partners is hoping to take their proposal before the Illinois Commerce Commission in April.
