UPDATE: Effingham Man Killed in Motorcycle Crash Monday Evening

An Effingham man was fatally injured in a collision involving a motorcycle and a UPS truck Monday evening on Althoff Drive on Effingham's north side.

Police say they received a 911 call at 5:49pm Monday evening reporting an accident with injuries at the entrance to Patterson Technologies and Althoff Avenue. A vehicle driven by Nick Bumgarner, 35, Mattoon, turned in front of and was struck by a motorcycle driven by 19-year old Michael Williams of Effingham.

Williams was fatally injured in the crash and pronounced dead at the scene by Chief Deputy Coroner Linda Mette at 6:14pm.

An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday. Bumgarner was ticked for Failure to Yield.

The incident remains under investigation by the Effingham City Police Dept and the Effingham County Coroner's office. Effingham City-County Ambulance and the Effingham Fire Department provided assistance at the scene.
