Shumway firefighters handled a brush fire on a breezy Monday afternoon.

Shumway Battalion Chief Johnathon Paholke said an individual at 10820 East Kingwood Drive held a weiner roast Sunday night and thought the fire was out. The wind Monday, though, stirred up some embers from one log and carried some of the embers into the nearby woods, which caught fire.

Paholke estimates some six acres of wooded area were burned. Firefighters established a firebreak to protect nearby homes and then put out the brush. Sigel firefighters assisted at the scene. No one was injured.

Firefighters were called at 3:08pm and were on scene until 4:35pm.
