Cumberland School Board Hears of Good Success by Students

Cumberland school board members heard of good performances by district students at this month's meeting.

The FFA Forestry Team placed first at the Section 20 Career Development Event at Fox Ridge State Park. Team members were Josie Brockett (1st), Kendra Flood (2nd), Macey Craig (4th), Jay Stierwalt (7th), Haley Oakley (8th), A.J. Baugher (9th), Ryley Brown, Penny Flood and Charity Smith. 

The top five of the team advanced to State competition in Carbondale. The team placed third in the state. Team members were Kendra Flood (3rd overall), Josie Brockett, Macey Craig, Haley Oakley and Jay Stierwalt.

Student Council Sponsor Olivia Ross will serve as advisor to and for the student body and will attend board meetings. The idea was adopted as a result of reviewing Board policy.

Also, the 5th/6th grades Eco Team placed third of 14 teams at the Douglas Hart Nature Center. Team members are MaKeegan Sparling, Jordan Armes, Lindsey Zike, Carly Thornton and Mason Brockett.

Board members heard that a Veterans Day program would be presented at Cumberland High School at 9am on November 11.

In personnel matters, the Cumberland board employed Rebecca Arnold as a bus driver; reassigned Susan Haga from bus driver to a Special Education bus aide; accepted a letter of resignation from Whitney Edwards as assistant middle school track coach and agreed to post the position; accepted the resignation of Ron Haack as a bus driver and mechanic as of the end of the month; accepted the resignation of Rhonda Walsh as an internal middle school PBIS coach; and posted an open bus driver position.
