Louisiana Woman Injured in Semi Crash Wednesday Morning; City Police Investigate Auto Theft

A Louisiana woman was injured in a crash of a semi in Effingham County on Wednesday morning.

State police report a rig driven by 41-year-old Michelle Rausch of Baton Rouge, Louisiana was westbound on I-70, two miles west of Altamont just after 5:30am. Rausch choked on her drink and lost control of the semi, which ran off the roadway and struck a fence, coming to a stop on the north side of the interstate.

A passenger in the rig, 36-year-old Laura Rausch of Baton Rouge, was injured and was taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham for treatment.

Effingham City Police are investigating an auto theft.

Theft of a vehicle owned by Auto Mall of Effingham occurred while parked at 313 Miracle Avenue between September 28 and September 30. The vehicle is valued at $20,000.
