The National Weather Service reports it was straight line winds that caused the storm damage in Dieterich earlier this week.

Meteorologist Chris Miller said radar indicated that the part of Monday evening's storm that impacted Dieterich was from damaging straight line winds, estimated to be 70-80MPH.

Miller said Effingham County Emergency Management Agency confirmed the information after assessing the damage and determining that the structural damage to a house south of the Post Office was due to a tree falling on it, not from the wind.

Miller said the rotation with the storm that led to the issuance of a tornado warning for central Effingham County was about five miles southwest of Effingham at 4:55pm, moving to the northeast. The warning was cancelled shortly after it was issued.
