(Springfield, IL) Derrick Smith is no longer part of the Illinois House. Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan announced the 100-6 vote to remove Smith Friday afternoon.
Smith was arrested in March for allegedly accepting a seven-thousand-dollar bribe to make sure a daycare got a state grant. The Chicago Democrat has denied the charges, but declined to testify at several House hearings on the matter. He's the first Illinois representative removed from office since 1905.
