The Effingham area was able to see a total eclipse of the Moon this morning. The eclipse began a little after 4 a.m. when the Moon started slipping into the Earth's shadow.

The eclipse went total from around 5:30 to 6:30 a.m. before starting to lighten up again towards sunrise. It's the second eclipse for 2014 and there will be two more occurring in April and September of 2015 which is called a tetrad. It's unusual because the full eclipses are actually visible in all or parts of the United States.

An eclipse occurs when the Moon passes through the shadow of the Earth. The weather was perfect this morning, without cloud cover, to actually see the total eclipse.
