You've probably heard the phrase..."Much can be accomplished when no one cares who gets the credit."

That was somewhat the theme when the Effingham County Economic Development Committee met over the noon hour Tuesday. The Committee has loaned all of the almost-$100,000 it was granted a couple of years ago to various businesses wanting to get started or to grow. In the meantime, committee members discussed what they could do to keep things moving until enough loan money is repaid to directly assist other businesses.

Several agencies were suggested as potential partners, including South Central Illinois Regional Planning and Development Commission, CEFS Economic Opportunity Corporation, and the Effingham County Chamber of Commerce's Business Incubator among them. Committee members said if those groups work together, they're sure to find the resources a new or struggling business needs.

Committee member Rob Arnold suggested contacting the mayors or village presidents in each community and asking if they would attend their meetings to review what's going on in their towns, in hopes some project could be assisted by the economic development group.
