Outages started being reported throughout Norris Electric Cooperative’s service area around 4 p.m. Thursday.
Damaging winds and lightning have caused outages with trees down into lines, blown transformers, and broken poles. Members in 26 of our 32 substations reported outages with the Greenup and Casey areas being hit especially hard with major damage in some areas. Over 2,000 members throughout the service area were without power at one time during the night with about half of those being restored at the time of this report.
Crews have worked throughout the night and will continue to work until power is restored. Outside crews have been called in to help as well. Many services have been restored and the crews will continue to work until everyone is back on.
Norris Electric is anticipating power to be restored to most members by late Friday. If you do not have service by Friday evening, please call their office and report that you are still out of power.
We want to emphasize how important it is to stay away from any downed power lines. And if you use a generator make sure you use it safely. If it back feeds on to the coop’s power lines it could injure or kill a lineman trying to repair the line.
Updates are also being posted to theirwebsite at www.norriselectric.com as well as Facebook and Twitter.
