Numbers were way up for the 2014 Effingham County Manufacturing Day.

A group of entities including the City of Effingham, County of Effingham, The Alliance, the Effingham County Chamber of Commerce and Lake Land College worked with local and area manufacturers to let high school students know what they do and how the students could be part of their success.

More than 260 students from 13 area high schools participated in Manufacturing Day, up from 150 students from eight high schools a year ago. Students had the opportunity to view exhibits from several entities to get an idea what career opportunities are available right on their own backyard. Several students remarked they had no idea the number of industries in the Effingham area and what they offered in the way of careers. Lake Land College had various displays available as part of a Manufacturers Expo. A 3-D printer was a big hit, as it manufactured various items including a bust of Lake Land President Josh Bullock.

Dylan Haun, a graduate of a Christian high school in Danville and a student at Danville Area Community College on his way to Eastern Illinois University was the guest speaker at the Effingham County Chamber of Commerce First Friday Luncheon. Haun shared with the high schoolers some tips that would help them find success in finding their career path.  His "cheat code" as Haun called it included hard work and networking with those who could help identify what path to pursue.

Several industries held Open Houses to conclude the day.
