Several severe thunderstorms traveling throughout the Ameren Illinois service delivery area Thursday resulted in downed wires and broken utility poles and left many customers without power in the late afternoon and early evening.
Crews were working to get service restored across the service territory as quickly and safely as possible. Approximately 17,900 Ameren Illinois customers experienced storm-related service interruptions as of 5:30 p.m. Thursday. As of 7p.m. there were 13,738 customers with storm-related service interruptions.
Ameren Illinois officials urge residents in the impacted areas to be on alert for downed electrical wires. Residents in areas without lights should not venture outdoors after dark and should avoid brush, downed trees and limbs and any debris that may conceal downed power lines. If you see a fallen or sagging wire, assume it is still energized and dangeorus. Eledtric power lines can carry power even after being knocked to the ground. To report a downed line, call Ameren Illinois at 1-800-755-5000 or local police at 911.
