Nicholas Jackson made his initial appearance in Effingham County Circuit Court Monday on a charge of armed robbery. Jackson is charged with the holdup of Econolodge on West Fayette in Effingham earlier this year.

Jackson's appearance in Effingham County had been awaiting proceedings in Coles County where he's charged with armed robbery and home invasion. He's accused of entering a home in Mattoon in March and tying up the family members inside the home, and with the holdup of Casey's General Store in Mattoon in August. He faces $500,000 bond on the home invasion count and $100,000 on the armed robbery charge.

During Monday's appearance, Jackson was assigned Effingham County Public Defender Scott Schmidt to represent him. He's due back in court on November 6. His bond in Effingham County was previously set at $100,000, but he's being held in Coles County Jail.

Meanwhile, Jackson's co-defendant in the Coles County cases, 21-year-old Zachary Sapp, was in court. Sapp asked for release from jail on his own recognizance or a reduction in his bond so he could begin a residential treatment program, but that motion was denied. He is due back in court on November 17.
