After several attempts, a court-appointed attorney has been found for Vandalia resident Richard Marschke, and the Court had to go outside Effingham County to secure one.

Judge Allan Lolie Thursday morning announced that Bill Hoffeditz of Jasper County will serve as Marschke's attorney. Hoffeditz has served as both state's attorney and public defender in Jasper County. Judge Lolie said he's known Hoffeditz for 20 years and said he knows he'll do a good job for Marschke.

The 32-year-old Marschke is charged with drug induced homicide for allegedly providing the heroin that resulted in the death of an Altamont man. After the usual public defender options had conflicts in the case, the Court exhausted other Effingham County attorneys who have signed up to do conflicts work. Judge Lolie said he spoke with Resident Circuit Judge Kimberly Koester who has been presiding over a trial in Shelby County this week. The judge said Judge Koester deferred to him on how to handle the situation, so he contacted Hoffeditz.

We won't have to wait long for Marschke's next court appearance; Judge Lolie scheduled a hearing for Marschke with Hoffeditz Friday morning at 10:00 before Judge Ericka Sanders.

Marschke is slated to go on trial October 6.
