St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital’s Wound Healing Center has achieved much in the five years since it opened in January 2010.  They have treated over 2,200 patients in that time frame, bringing complete healing to many of them.  They have repeatedly received awards annually for excellence in patient satisfaction and quality over the past five years, and they have established long-lasting friendships with the patients that they see on a frequent basis, sometimes seeing them daily for a number of weeks to bring them healing.

On September 4 at the Effingham Knight of Columbus Hall, the Wound Healing Center staff held a beach-themed dinner for their past patients to commemorate their upcoming five-year anniversary as well as thank their many patients for entrusting their care to the Wound Healing Center.  Over 200 patients joined the staff for the event, sharing many laughs and stories.

Tammy Probst, Director of the Wound Healing Center, said, “It was great to see so many patients we hadn’t seen in while and know that they wanted to come back to celebrate with us.  That shows how close we feel to our patients – they are like family to us.”

A number of past patients shared their personal stories and how much the Wound Healing Center staff meant to them. Russ Boyer stated, “They are all about giving versus getting.  I was always asked, ‘What can I do for you?’”, he said.  Directing his comments to the staff, he said, “You are all outstanding, kind, wonderful, patient, and amazing – God bless you and thank you!  We are so blessed to have you here in Effingham.”

Another past patient, Patsy Hubbard, started her story by getting everyone in attendance to sing “You Are My Sunshine” with her. The reason she started her story that way was because, as she said, “That’s what you all are to me!” She thanked the Wound Healing Center staff for her care, saying, “Thank you from the bottom of my heart!  I will pray God blesses you – you are wonderful!”

St. Anthony's Wound Healing Center’s professional staff is highly trained in the specialized, comprehensive care of problem wounds, using the most up-to-date approaches in the science of wound care, including hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Through a partnership with Healogics, the nation's pioneer and leader in wound management services, St. Anthony's Wound Healing Center utilizes advanced therapies and proven clinical protocols in providing comprehensive, integrated services.
