The Dieterich School Board adopted a tentative budget for the 2012-13 school year. The Board heard a presentation from Superintendent Cary Jackson regarding the tentative budget which shows expenditures exceeding revenues for the 2012-13 school year. That will result in deficit spending. Jackson cited the additional cuts in state funding for the majority of the deficit.
The Board heard an update on the baseball field project. The project is nearing completion and will be ready for the fall high school season. Some of the updates that have taken place include new fencing, a new concrete/brick style backstop, new dugouts, new lighting and updated drainage.
Junior-Senior high school principal Kevin Haarman reported Prairie State Achievement exam scores for the 2011-12 year. Last year's Junior class scored 52 percent meets/exceeds in reading, 66 percent meets/exceeds in math and 55 percent meets/exceeds in science. Haarman and Elementary Principal Kathy Pattenaude reported to the Board on the annual yearly progress of the district. While overall scores were very good, the district had a subgroup for the first time resulting in the district not making AYP for the 2011-12 school year. This year's AYP target was 85 percent. The Elementary scored 85.2 percent in reading and 93.9 percent in math. The Jr./Sr. High School scored 77.8 percent in reading and 85.6 percent in math.
Pattenaude reported enrollment for K-3 has increased resulting in additional students for the district.
The Board learned of the retirement of Howard Bohnhoff. Bohnhoff has been a bus driver fo Dieterich Unit #30 for the last 56 years. The Board was very grateful to Mr. Bohnhoff for the years he has served the students of Dieterich Unit #40.
