A Petco Petroleum flatbed truck apparently with drilling pipe stacked too high crashed into the Union Pacific Railroad overpass on Illinois Route 37 in Kinmundy Saturday morning.

Kinmundy Police Chief Cody Parker says when the flatbed trailer couldn't clear the underpass, the pipe fell off the truck onto the roadway. The truck driver, 23-year-old Patrick Marbel of Highland, Florida, escaped injury.

Route 37 had to be closed for about 15 minutes while the pipe was removed from the highway. Train traffic was halted until an Illinois Department of Transportation bridge inspector could verify the bridge had no structural damage.

The incident occurred around 11:15am.
