The Illinois State Fair has not even officially opened, and we already have winners from Effingham County.

Susie Wurl of Altamont won two Best of Show awards in the Textile Division.

Barbara Brummer of Mason won the Watercolor Category in amateur art.

Thanks to Kurt Becker for the tip. But Becker also claimed victories. Becker placed first in the antique category with Dairy Jars and first with Illinois State Fair Souvenir or Ribbons before 1950 and in the collections category with Political/Advertising Button.

He also took seconds in Milk Glass and Illinois State Fair Souvenirs or Ribbons collection. He captured thirds in Cut Glass and Small World War I Memorabilia.

Scott Beal, of Mason, took two first place finishes in the antique category with Berry Set, Bowl and two Saucers and Colored Pressed Glass. He also had two seconds with Small World's Fair Souvenir items and Vinegar Cruets.

Kimberly Tarrant of Altamont claimed a first in the craft category with door decoration. She took second in the antique category with toothpick holders. She had four thirds, two in the antique category with Cream Pitcher and Illinois State Fair Souvenir Ribbons Before 1950 and two in the craft category with Table Centerpiece and Wreath Made From Wood or Other Material.
