Since Clark County murder suspect Thomas Messina is being examined as to his fitness, his jury trial has been postponed.

The 20-year-old Messina is facing three counts of murder in the January death of Gregory Scott Collins, whose body was found while firefighters were fighting a blaze in his home in Casey.

Messina had been scheduled to go on trial August 12, but defense attorney William McGrath has asked that his client be examined as to whether a more appropriate plea in his case should be guilty but mentally ill or not guilty by reason of insanity.

In the meantime, Messina's trial has been rescheduled to begin October 14, with a pre-trial hearing scheduled for September 3.

Messina remains in custody in Clark County Jail.
