Jay Miller of Altamont, already in jail after being convicted of drug induced homicide, has been arrested on new charges for an incident in the jail.

Effingham County Sheriff John Monnet said the incident occurred Saturday during visiting hours. Both Jay Miller and Christopher Miller, no relation but someone who testified in Miller's trial, were in the visitation booths at the same time. The Sheriff said Christopher Miller was seated with his back to Jay Miller and Jay Miller reportedly jumped Christopher Miller from behind. Jail personnel separated the two but not before Christopher Miller suffered a head injury caused by the handcuffs worn by Jay Miller.

Monnet said he checked and there was no court ordered "no contact" directive in place regarding the two Millers.

Miller will likely make his first court appearance on the new charges today. He is due to be sentenced on the drug induced homicide conviction on July 31.
