Stewardson-Strasburg school officials Thursday discussed how to utilize the revenue anticipated from the county sales tax approved by Shelby County voters earlier this year.

Stew-Stras Superintendent Michele Lindenmeyer anticipates the district will receive $111,000 this year from the sales tax. The revenue will be used to improve outdoor athletic facilities and for safety improvements.

The District is also planning a fundraiser to generate additional dollars for the outdoor athletic facilities, especially around the ball field. The work could include a new softball fence, dirt work and other amenities. Lindenmeyer said it's been some time since significant work has been done to the complex.

The Board also awarded work to Mason's Masonry for $9,500 for tuckpointing and brick repair to the west wall of the elementary wing; discussed excavation work to alleviate water and drainage issues on the east side of the school with some consideration also being given to installing tiles to direct the water away from the building; and approved a co-operative agreement with the Neoga school district in high school cross country.

Stew-Stras board members also hired Ben Giertz as an aide at the grade school for the coming school year.
