Hospital Announces New Members of Friends Board

St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital has announced the recent appointment of three new members to the Friends of St. Anthony’s Leadership Council for a three-year term of July 2014 to June 2017.

Joe Fearday

Joe Fearday has been a Financial Advisor with Wells Fargo Advisors, LLC since 2009 and has over 10 years of experience in financial services.  Prior to working with Wells Fargo Advisors, LLC, he worked as a financial analyst for an Investment Group in Mattoon.  In this role, he consulted on client accounts related to asset allocation, investment analysis, and performance, and also analyzed and reviewed Family Foundation portfolios.  Fearday is an alumnus of St. Anthony High School and graduated Cum Laude from Eastern Illinois University with an undergraduate degree in Finance.  In addition, he was awarded the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation in 2005 and has also graduated from the Cannon Trust School and Pacific Institute Investment in Excellence training.  

Fearday is currently a member of the Effingham Rotary Club and an Assistant Governor for Rotary District 6490 and Past President of the Mattoon Rotary Club.  He also serves on the Board of Education for St. Anthony Schools and YB Next.  In the past, Fearday served as Chairman of the Mattoon Area Community Foundation, on the board of the Effingham United Way and on the Finance committee for the Southeastern Illinois Community Foundation.  Fearday and his wife, Racheal have been married for six years, have two daughters, and are members of St. Anthony Parish in Effingham. He enjoys spending time with his family, kayaking and participating in water activities.

Michael P. Karibian  

Michael P. Karibian currently serves as Corporate Treasurer for Midland States Bancorp and its primary subsidiary, Midland States Bank located in Effingham.  Karibian, who has been with Midland States Bancorp since November 2010, is an accomplished financial professional with more than 25 years of executive and senior experience in all facets of financial management, risk management practices, derivatives, and operational management. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in Accounting and Finance from the University of Missouri-St. Louis.  Additionally, Karibian has earned the designations of Certified Public Accountant (CPA®-Inactive), Certified Managerial Accountant (CMA®). 

Some of Karibian’s community service activities include past president of 100 Hyes (a private fundraising organization that solicited donations that were used for micro-grants to the needy), numerous church organizations, Habitat for Humanity/Paint the Town and the United Way.  Karibian and his wife, Linda, have been married 24 years, have one daughter, and are members of the Armenian Apostolic Church.  He enjoys golf and classic cars.

Karen Luchtefeld 

Karen Luchtefeld is on the Effingham County Board where she has served our county for 10 years and currently sits on the Tax/Finance and the Legislative Committees.  Luchtefeld was also a swim instructor for 19 years and Dental Hygienist for 22 years.  She graduated with an Applied Science degree as a Dental Hygienist from Lake Land College and she also attended Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College. 

Luchtefeld’s community service throughout the years includes 19 years with Effingham County FISH Human Services where she is serving her fourth year as President; CEFS Member; Rotary (Past President); United Way; Effingham County Board of Health and Helen Matthes Library Board.  Luchtefeld and her husband, Charlie, who is a Pharmacist at St. Anthony’s, have been married 41 years, have two children and three grandchildren and are members of the Christian faith.  She is a life-long resident of Effingham and her hobbies include reading, swimming and spending time with her grandchildren. 

Fearday, Karibian, and Luchtefeld join a team of dedicated volunteers on the Friends Leadership Council.  Dr. John Gapsis has been appointed Chairperson for the Friends, and Nancy Wolf has been appointed as Vice-Chairperson.  Other Council members include Lee Beckman, Cathy Bierman, Mary Lynn Byers, Jeff Dust, Travis Farley, Dr. Gapsis, Mike Mumm, Tracy Willenborg, Nancy Wolf and Rem Woodruff.

Jean Anne Grunloh, Dick Hawickhorst, and Jim Hecht recently concluded their service on the Friends Leadership Council.  St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital extends a special thank you to them for their dedication and commitment to the Friends of St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital Leadership Council.
