Altamont school officials are readying for the new year while plenty of remodeling and renovation is underway.
Superintendent Jeff Fritchtnitch said some of the construction items are still underway; high school guidance office, door installation at the grade school, and the like. All gyms are closed for waxing and curing. All projects are to be completed by month's end, and then touch up cleaning will begin.
High school principal Jerry Tkachuk said the cafeteria in his building has been completely dismantled, re-tiled and water tested. Asbestos removal has also been completed.
Grade school principal Doug Hill said carpeting in the main junior high hallways and front of the building office area has been removed and tile installed.
Meanwhile, computer cleanup has been completed, including all staff computers, and the new phone system has been installed. The district has switched over to Google for calendars and meeting minutes. Emails are now @altamontschools.org.
The Board discussed funding bond options. The Board needs the discussion to begin Phase I of the grade school renovation. Also discussed was a new formal Volunteer Program, which was adopted at the meeting. A formal program should limit the District's insurance costs.
In other business, the Altamont board accepted the resignation of Rob Niemerg as grade school Art teacher, 7th grade girls basketball coach and 7th grade girls track coach; approved Chad Smith, John Hall, Tina Mette, Clint Reardon and Mike Delaney as volunteer coaches; employed Amber Mayhaus as high school assistant volleyball coach and Amanda Mueller as high school cross country coach; authorized Fritchtnitch to seek fuel bids and to start work on next year's budget; discussed a high school Spanish trip to Spain; and added a lease levy for technology up to .05 cents for the new fiscal year tax levy.
