The 2014 Effingham County Relay for Life generated $27,700 for the battle against cancer.

The annual event was ended early this morning when lightning arrived about 4:30am, so no closing ceremonies were held. Nonetheless, there were plenty of memorable events in the meantime. Leah and Kevin Colclasure served as the survivor and caregiver speakers during Friday night's opening ceremonies, the track at Teutopolis Junior High School was ringed with light during the Luminaria Ceremony, a number of bands provided music as did MC and DJ for the night Scott Ealy, and there was a bachelor auction, a Relay for Life Pageant, a Frozen T-Shirt Contest and a variety of other fun activities.

Thanks to the Debolt family for their co-operation in making Culver's Frozen Custard available for sale at our booth at Relay.

Relay for Life Chairman Ron Mietzner said the early information is that $100,000 was generated over the year for the battle against cancer. We should have a final official total early in the coming week.
