Residents of Teutopolis have begun commemorating the village's 175th anniversary, but the big celebration is yet to come.

A weeklong series of activities will begin Saturday, July 26 and will conclude Sunday, August 3.

Chuck Deters, who is helping chair the event, spoke at the Effingham Noon Rotary Club meeting on July 2, sharing information about the big celebration. Deters presented two videos about the village's history that also include testimonials from current residents on why Teutopolis is still flourishing.

Activities during the week of celebrations will include dances, bands, a car show, a whiffle ball tournament, a Terquasquicentennial play, kids games, tours of Teutopolis attractions, bed races, the First Lady competition, threshing and baling demonstrations, and three fireworks displays.

The fun began in May with the Bury Ray Zore event and was followed by the first of three Kangaroo Courts, featuring defendants arrested for various "offenses".

Deters was accompanied by Jerry Runde and Nikki Bloemer. Runde is one of the Teutopolis residents helping with the celebration and Nikki Bloemer is one of the First Lady contestants, and they and Deters were dressed in period costumes.
