Two vehicles...one headed east, the other headed west...struck a deer Wednesday along US 40 near the entrance to Ballard Nature Center west of Effingham.
Effingham County sheriff's deputies say the incident occurred at 3:45pm when an eastbound pickup truck driven by 47-year-old Cynthia Murray of Altamont struck the deer. The impact left the deer in the westbound lane where it was struck by a car driven by 50-year-old Barbara Shelton of St. Elmo.
Deputies say Shelton complained of pain and was treated for her injuries. Murray was not injured.
