There were several crashes Thursday afternoon along I-70 west of Effingham.  One of those crashes involved significant injuries.

The crash occurred at 4:56pm on I-70 eastbound, one mile east of St. Elmo.  State police say a semi stopped in traffic for an earlier crash was rear-ended by a SUV.

The driver of the SUV, 47-year-old Matthew Doran of Ballwin, Missouri, was injured as was the driver of the semi, 57-year-old Randy Curtis of Limestone, Tennessee.  Doran was taken to Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia, while Curtis was taken to St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

Doran was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash.
