We've learned of another competitor in the London Summer Olympics who has ties to this area.

Amanda Weir, who swam in London in the Women's 400 meter freestyle relay prelims and took a bronze medal as part of the relay team, is a great-niece of former Effingham resident Gladys Winterrowd and of Martha Vanderhoof of Effingham.  She is a cousin of Jeanie Knabe of Effingham.

Amanda trains with SwimAtlanta and holds two silver medals from swimming events in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.
