A Teutopolis man was injured in a crash in the county Sunday morning.
Sigel firefighters were called at 6:11am to a single-vehicle crash with entrapment on 1800th Avenue, about a half-mile west of 1400th Street, three miles north of Effingham. A vehicle driven by 20-year-old George Wente of Teutopolis was traveling east when Wente lost control of the vehicle. The unit ran off the right side of the roadway and struck several trees before coming to a stop.
Sigel firefighters report Wente was trapped inside the vehicle due to extensive damage to the driver's side door and windshield area. Sigel Fire requested rescue squads from both the Effingham and Teutopolis Fire Departments to respond to the scene to help extricate Wente from the vehicle. After he was removed, Wente was airlifted for treatment by Arch Air Medical.
Firefighters cleared the scene at 7:43am. The Effingham County Sheriff's Department is handling the crash. Also assisting at the scene was Effingham City-County Ambulance Service.
1800th Avenue was closed for over an hour in the area of the crash.
