It's months away, but planning is well underway for the 2014 Effingham County Fair.

The theme for this year's fair, the 70th Annual, is "Blue Jeans and Country Dreams".  The fair will run from Friday through Saturday, August 1-9 at the fairgrounds at Altamont.

Young country singing star Tyler Farr will headline this year's fair on Friday night, August 8.  Farr topped the charts with "Redneck Crazy" and his latest hit is "Whiskey in My Water".  Farr will be joined that night by Drew Baldridge who is gaining attention in country music circles.

A change in this year's lineup will occur on the first weekend.  The Fair Talent Search featuring a variety of local entertainers 21 and younger will be paired with the Effingham County Junior Miss Pageant on Saturday, August 2.  The change is designed to enable some young people interested in being a part of those activities to be able to compete in the Master Showmanship event scheduled on Sunday, August 3.  The grandstand talent on August 3 will now feature The Ash Brothers with their salute to Alabama and to Eagles.

The evening entertainment will begin on Friday, August 1 with motorsports activities.  The rest of the evening lineup:

Monday, August 4--tractor and truck pulling

Tuesday, August 5--Miss Effingham County Fair Queen Pageant and Little Miss Pageant and the Little Miss Pigtail event

Wednesday, August 6--more tractor and truck pulling

Thursday, August 7--Rodeo

Saturday, August 9--Demo Derby, with ATV pulling earlier that day

Horse racing will again be a big part of the fair.  Harness races are scheduled Sunday-Thursday, August 3-7, and thoroughbred racing will be featured on Friday, August 8.

The inflatables that were a hit with the kids last year will return along the midway on Friday through Sunday, with the carnival in place from Monday through Saturday.

The fair website is to be in place soon.
