The St. Anthony High School Spanish Scholar Bowl team took first place honors at the Spanish Scholar Bowl April 10 at SIU-Carbondale.

St. Anthony's High School Sophomore Spanish Scholar team members include Captain Nick Grunloh, Abby Brown, Isabel Moore, Charlie Marshall, Jay Niebrugge and Freshman Andy Saba.

St. Anthony High School also had another team compete in the Spanish Scholar Bowl.  This team consists of students who have been in Spanish for more than two years.  Team members include Captain Maggie Mumm, Lauren Schmidt, Scott Rentfrow, Nick Wortman, Peter Keller, Madeline McDevitt, Sam Wortman and Emma Masiero.

Each April, more than 1,000 area high school students and their teachers travel to the SIUC Student Center to partake in a morning full of Scholar Bowl competitions and cultural presentations.

The Scholar Bowl is a question-and-answer game played between two teams.  Each round consists of two five-minute halves.  Points are scored by correctly answering questions of two types, toss-ups and bonuses.

There are different Scholar Bowl competitions played at the same time in different languages (Latin, French, German and Spanish).
